I am happy to announce I found the problem after many tests.
The usb cable supplied with the can clip is too long and the voltage drop causes the can clip not to be recognized by the windows computer when the engine is on.
I tried a short cable and it works. Not perfectly though but enough to get some data when the engine is on.
I am using the gold board with the AN2131q chip.
