d4f and d4ft camshaft specifications
#1
Hi all, i have a tuned twingo gt and have a big turbo i want to fit, i also want to upgrade the cam at the same time.

Does anyone have the standard lift and duration for the inlet and exhaust on both the d4f atmo camshaft and the d4ft turbo camshaft. No one seems to produce an uprated camshaft so i was thinking of trying the atmo cam if it has higher lift and better duration.

The camshaft part numbers are
d4f turbo cam 8200658986
d4f atmo cam 8200664673

D4F 740 Camshaft
Lift :
Inlet - 8,004 mm
Outlet - 8,850 mm

Timing :
10° 24° / 25° 8°

Older Versions from D4F
Lift :
Inlet - 8,849 mm
Outlet - 8,850 mm

Timing :
10° 31° / 25° 8°

For D4Ft , sorry , no Information .
I'm not sure , but look for a Camshaft from D4F 722 - 728

My other Interest goes to your Turbo .
I know , original is not perfect .
Exhaust out to Turbo in is far away from good , you change something ?
From Hand with a Milling Cutter no Problem .
The Exhaust Pipe have the same Problem like my D4F , 40mm .
The Exhaust out from my D4F i make 48mm and switch to a 50mm Pipe , is much better now .

great info thank you, were the earlier d4f engines also 16v?

on the stock turbo i have a protoxide decat pipe and a full exhaust of the same diameter.

the problem i have is the turbo runs out of flow higher in the revs, i dont want to increase torque too much more so i want to flow more at higher revs. I currently have 147ft lb of torque but the turbo dies off at around 5500rpm, id like to hold the same torque up at 6500/7000rpm so have started mounting a bigger turbo on a standard manifold.

All D4F only 16V , is the basis for the D4F turbo .

147ft lb of torque ?
Are you sure ?
This is like original !
With the original Turbo you can have more as 160ft lb .
Why you need 6500 / 7000 rpm ?
The Turbo ist not your only Problem , that it goes only to 5500 rpm .
A better Camshaft can help you for this .
How big is the throttle ?
Something bigger can help too .
From D4F 722 the Throttle goes 40mm .

stock is around 114ft lb/155nm i make 147ft lb/199nm.

I can make it produce 175ft lb, tested on the dyno but we dont know how strong the rods are. The turbo is tiny and simply runs out of flow at higher rpm, thus requiring a bigger turbo. The reason to revs is to make horsepower, if i can make torque higher up the revs then i can make more horsepower without a huge increase in stress (torque) on the engine.

so even if i still made the same torque but held it to a peak of 6500rpm my horesepower would become 147 x 6500 / 5252 = 181bhp vs the 150bhp. This would net me 30bhp increase with no increase in torque

This is also why i am looking at camshafts to help with better flow and rpm but no one i can find lists an aftermarket camshaft for the d4ft. Standard throttle as its not looking to be a restriction currently.

i also drive the car on track so i aim for flat consistent torque rather than a high peak and it drop off

Ok , my Mistake , not Nm . Very Happy

For your Dream , first you need a good Oil !
I hope you have .
I drive Castrol Supercar 10W60 and my D4F love it ! Very Happy
A good Camshaft is for all D4F a Problem , you can't find .
Or you find a Tuner who can change the Timing/Lift on the original Camshaft .
A Camshaft from a normal D4F gives you only a small Help , but better as nothing .
My next Tuning on my D4F goes to the Channels Zylinder Head , Inlet not so much , but Outlet much more , the same i mean you need too , but go save , or you find a Waterchannel on Outlet . Shocked

I see the Pics you are on Track .
But you know , you sit on the wrong Side in your Twingo ? Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

hahahaha no im on the correct side you are on the wrong side Very Happy lol

I found a company that can regrind the cam for more lift, though i could do with an adjustable pulley on the end so i could adjust it a little. Ive been told to adjust the cam by 4 degrees to move the power band higher up.

I use 5w40 renault elf oil but will be switching to a 5w50 soon. I drive my car everyday so i think a 60 might be too thick for me still.

I drive my Twingo everyday too , Summer and Winter , all goes round !
You have much more Power inside in your little Engine , this Risk i don't want take .
In the Moment you don't know how long your Engine survived this !

I work with a adjustable Pulley on a other Engine with a Single Tuning Camshaft , all adjust away from the original OT goes for lost Power/Perfomans .
The way to do this is right , but your Camshaft is too harmless that you can win something .
It can go to find a little bit on your higher Powerband , but you lost more on the other Side from your Powerband , this is not a Option i can accept for my Engine !
This is playing , not tuning ! Wink
